Review of Philadelphia (1993) by Guido S — 11 Jan 2014
In the city of brotherly love and where Santa Claus is booed, Tom Hanks is a lawyer who is fired once lesions due to AIDS become visible on his face. No one will take his case due to the fame of his former firm.
He has to go to a TV lawyer who takes the case for the fame. Eventually he wins the case, but also is so sick that he decides it is time for him to be pulled off his life support. Hanks is fantastic in this film, as is Denzel.
Banderas is also in it as Hanks lover, but doesn't do too much except be in the background for the most part. A good movie and groundbreaking at the time and would still be pretty powerful if it came out today.
A very heavy movie to take in and tough to watch at times due to the emotional content, but it is still worth seeing.
