Review of Philadelphia (1993) by Liam C — 20 Feb 2014
Philadelphia is a very sad film and it's thought provoking but there was just something about it that never really clicked with me. Oh, don't worry, I did like it, shed a tear and I'm not mad because it's a story about homosexuals or anything but there was just something about it that never came full circle.
Maybe its because we were supposed to feel bad for Andrew just because he's the main character, we don't know much about him, just that he's the victim. But like I say, I did like it, the acting was great and the story was really urgent and it really gets the viewer involved, especially in the opening scenes of the court case where the actors are directly looking at the camera.
I feel like Denzels work was quite over looked here, I feel he should have been nominated for some supporting actor awards, he was great in this. At the end of the day it was a movie made famous for the concept but stayed famous and in peoples minds because of the talent involved.
