Review of Phantom Thread (2017) by Matthew M — 06 Jan 2019
Amazing performances. Truly. Brilliant. Watch it for that, every actor is phenomenal.
The story? A sexual power tale dressed as a drawing room drama... IMO a heavy handed, poorly written allegory - The last 15 minutes seem like a rushed rough outline that destroys an interesting examination of how "genius" works with the people around them / male - female power dynamic / what really make up genius.
I'm mostly annoyed that I bought it and that I spent two hours of my life on it. And of course this time.
Great performances, unpleasant movie.
