Review of Phantom Thread (2017) by Gary W — 13 Apr 2018

I had such high hopes for how I would feel after watching this, however, I was left only with an empty, unfulfilled feeling as if I were standing on a diving board for eternity, never to dive off. The only thing that this film has going for it is, the performances!! The acting delivered is superb.

However, that and the beautiful dresses was all there was. There didn't seem to be any purpose or feeling of a high point in the film where it all came together and left me feeling as if I had felt anything at all.

I just kept waiting for a feeling, something, anything to come over me and invoke a any sort of rise or fall of emotion. I finished feeling as if I could not get that time back that I just lost. And I don't know about anyone else but I kind of prefer to feel as if a film was worth my time spent on it.

I wanted this one so badly, but it just never happened. Again, bravo to the actors for giving this film a reason to even comment on.
