Review of Phantom of the Paradise (1974) by Scott M — 10 Mar 2009
For some reason, I have a particular affinity for 70s pop culture, although I'm a little young to have truly "experienced" the joys of glam rock and leisure suits. This movie, from what I understand, is a perfect distillation of much of the pervading fashion and music culture, and it's simply a wonder to behold for pop culture fans.
Brilliant soundtrack, excellent over-the-top acting, and a wonderful performance by the exceptionally talented Paul Williams as Swan, the music producer who has sold his soul for youth and success. A much much better film than Rocky Horror.
