Review of Phantom of the Paradise (1974) by L J — 21 May 2007
De Palma's Phantom Of The Opera update (for the 70s, obviously) - I've loved this film from the first time I saw it on late-night telly, many years ago. I fell in love with Jessica Harper and thought Paul Williams (who actually wrote the songs for this film) was a fantastic Faustian villain.
William Finley (quite sinister in De Palma's Sisters) is a sympathetic protagonist & Gerrit Graham is fantastically twattish. Apparently, Swan Records was originally Swan Song, but Led Zeppelin threatened to sue!
