Review of Phantom of the Paradise (1974) by Matthew M — 17 Feb 2012
A year before Rocky Horror, there was Phantom of the Paradise. The movie revolves around the plot of a musician named Winslow Leech, whose music is stolen by a music mogul named Swan. After escaping prison and getting his face disfigured, Winslow starts working for Swan.
The cast is pretty good. William Finley is a good actor. Paul Williams' casting is a bit confusing. Just the previous year, he was an ape in the last of the Planet of the Apes movies. Now, he's the evil Swan.
The movie is weird in spots but the soundtrack, written by Williams, is hauntingly good. Overall, you got a pretty good cult classic. Rocky Horror is way better but this'll do just fine.
