Review of Phantom of the Opera (1943) by Sezz M — 02 Jun 2009
The often underrated 1943 remake of Phantom of the Opera. It is neither a flat out horror film nor a striking adaptation of the novel which is why most people come away disappointed. It is however, a classic superproduction of music, humour, colour and some horror elements.
Claude Rains is perfect as the Phantom, Foster is a cutie and the music is wonderful. The Phantom's final scene is heart wrenching. One of my personal favourites.
