Review of Phantasm (1979) by Chris R — 13 Sep 2012
A classic and very bizarre film from the late 70's, Coscarelli's 'Phantasm' is a trip, albiet a very good and terrifying trip that takes you beyond the dimension of our world and into the world of flying silver spheres that suck your brains out, little midget monsters, and the very scary Tall Man, played wonderfully by Angus Scrimm.
'Phantasm' however I would only recommend to hardcore genre fans, fans who are veterans of horror. The newer fans I feel will not enjoy 'Phantasm' as it is a much more slower paced horror film than modern fans are used to.
Also, it's as I said a very strange horror film with elements of sci-fi, and I feel it'll turn many new fans off. Overall, If you feel like you've gone through most of the basic horror films, 'Phantasm' come highly recommended from this reviewer.
The non-genre or those new to the genre, I'd look at some more well known first.
