Review of Phantasm (1979) by Eytan D — 09 Jun 2014
By today's standards, "Phantasm" is very cheesy. Bad acting and silly special effects hinder it, but only slightly. Otherwise, Don Coscarelli has without a doubt created one of the most surreal, disturbing horror movies ever made.
It's wildly entertaining and bizarre, and though a bit ridiculous, it creates a notion of something quite scary: a fate worse than death. The score is memorable too, but everyone will remember Angus Scrimm as The Tall Man, one of the first real boogeymen of horror cinema.
He'll stick with you forever.
