Review of Peyton Place (1957) by Michael T — 29 Sep 2010
Spectacular trash. Beautifully filmed, competently and sincerely acted -- without a single wink to the audience -- laughably dreadful prose narration taken straight from the novel ("the fifth season was love").
Tame by today's standards -- and that's a good thing! The gore and violence are kept off-stage, where they belong, and the sour-aced hypocrites get their come-uppence, as well they should! Ludicrous plot, really, but so much fun.
