Review of Persuasion (2022) by Dunkaccino — 17 Sep 2022
Jealousy, hopelessness, confusion, uncertainty, despair. Johnson plays those emotions well, and with appropriate class and charisma. She gives a balanced performance amidst the messy tone. Because suddenly, the Fleabag stuff is gone, as the movie gets more and more dramatic.
I was left to wonder: Wasn't it just a rom-com a second ago? Persuasion entrusts too much of itself to providence, which means—as said by Anne—it hasn't made up its mind yet.
