Review of Personal Shopper (2016) by Brandon O — 13 May 2017
Personal Shopper benefits vastly from its unusual take on working through the loss of a loved one as well as moving forward from a phase of frozenness in life. It achieves this by capitalizing on a handful of genres (drama, mystery, supernatural-horror etc.
), and never really losing itself in the process. Kristen Stewart's understated and magnificent performance here cannot be praised enough -- she captures everything that needs to be, with a sensitive multilayered portrayal.
The end result is a well-crafted, avant-garde, and often emotionally-resonant cinematic experience.
