Review of Persona (1966) by Diego V — 10 Jun 2008
Probably my favorite Bergman film that I've seen so far, this is a film that truly shows the possibilities of cinema, as it is a movie that truly photographs the soul. It's hard for me to believe a film this mature or interesting could ever get made, as it is quiet and yet completely compelling, I've never seen a black and white film that looks as dream-like and surreal as this one does.
The ideas behind this movie require that everyone bring something beyond their A-game, and everyone, from Bergman, to Liv Ullman, to the FANTASTIC Bibi Andersson hit all the right notes. A must see for die-hard cinephiles.
