Review of Persepolis (2007) by Ben H — 06 Aug 2009
I was extremely impressed by the quality of work in this film. The style is very unique, different, and it gives off that sense of "this is something new", which is what all filmmakers should strive for that makes other filmmakers scratch their heads over. Perfect example of that here. And when I discovered that all the animation was drawn by hand, talk about an attachment to the film if you were on the team that created this piece.
It's a good, different, and unique movie. Yet it's not going to connect with the common mass of movie goers. 1st off because it's foreign. You tell people (Americans) that it's a foreign title and their hearts sink. But there's only a distinct audience for foreign movies anyways, regardless of how good the film is.
I think this is a great insight into the Islamic Revolution and all that was taking place during this time. From a little girl's perspective is a unique way to capture and reveal this information. I would only recommend it though to people looking for a different type of cinematic experience.
