Review of Perrier's Bounty (2009) by Stephen D — 09 Jun 2010
The thing about Perrier's Bounty that really stands out to me is the simplicity in which the story is told visually. Many recent films dealing with the criminal underbelly (Gangster No. 1, Guy Ritchie Films, etc.
) are very stylized almost to the point of becoming stale. WIth Perrier's Bounty, the visuals move the story forward, never taking away from the pacing of the film. That being said, its a strong story which unravels quite nicely and really has some big thematic things to say.
I love how the whole notion of the Grim Reaper, and the thematic message behind the film are never forced down your throat; its subtle strong storytelling. The performances all around are strong, and the relationships whether its between father and son, or budding lovers feels genuine and real.
In the end I think the film never takes itself too seriously, and in doing so; feels more slice of life. Love Brendan Gleeson & Jim Broadbent particularly in this one.
