Review of Performance (1970) by Michael T — 14 Jun 2008
An interesting British gangster flick in which the world of a hard-boiled Cockney mobster becomes mixed up with that of a reclusive washed-up rock star in swinging London. The charism that Jagger has as the frontman for The Rolling Stones has never translated well on the screen but his akward perfomance works in this film.
The Stones were set to record the song Memo From Turner but Keith Richards was seeing Anita Pallenberg and became jealous when she was cast as one of Jagger's live-in 'playmates' so Jagger recorded it with a number of sessioon players, including Ry Cooder.
