Review of Performance (1970) by Christopher S — 17 Jan 2010
A powerful, vibrant, and surreal piece of work from directors Donald Cammell and Nicolas Roeg must have been especially shocking when it was made (considering it was a mainstream studio film from Warner Bros.
), but it still manages to rise above the psychedelia of its time to really pack a punch. Innovative filmmaking, with Roeg's trademark fluid camerawork and fast-cut editing, and a richly compelling story that goes far deeper than most explorations of counterculture identity.
An absolute classic.
