Review of Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief (2010) by Bobo K — 02 Nov 2012
Even with me being a complete sucka for Greek mythology, the best I can give this Disney sitcom waiting to happen, is 40%. I simply can't get with the notion that these Greek Gods and Goddesses all have offspring growing up in teenage America.
It's so corny that I can't understand why accomplished actors like Liam Neeson continue to sacrifice themselves to this Disney-esque junk. The worst part had to be Uma Thurman as this cool version of Medusa, wandering around what appears to be a greenhouse in somebody's backyard, turning all those who enter into stone with one look into her eyes.
.. and fake snakes. The daughters of Aphrodite, a bunch of giggly teens? C'mon, man. Sorry, but this movie would've served better as some sort of Greek mythological spoof, because that's what it came off as.
