Review of Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief (2010) by Kevin R — 24 Apr 2014
I hope you find my eyes attractive.
A teenager living with his mom and crumby boyfriend discovers that he is truly the son of Poseidon. This becomes apparent because someone has stolen Zeus' thunderbolt and framed him. The only place he'll be safe now is a special school for the elite. His mom sneaks him to the school; once there, he works with some friend to embark on a secret mission to clear his name.
"You have...".
"A real horse's ass.".
Chris Columbus, director of Mrs. Doubtfire, Adventures in Babysitting, Home Alone, Heartbreak Hotel, Stepmom, Bicentennial Man, Rent, Nine Months, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, and Harry Potter and the Chambers of Secrets, delivers Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightening Thief. The storyline for this picture is just okay. There were some elements that were very well written and executed but the script itself was childish and disappointing. The acting was very mediocre and the cast includes Logan Lerman, Kevin McKidd, Jake Abel, Alexandra Daddario, Pierce Brosnan, Rosario Dawson, and Sean Bean.
"Hercules killed the beast with his bare hands and wore its skin as a trophy.".
I watched this because my girlfriend is a huge fan of this series and we both enjoy movies about mythology. Overall, this was fairly disappointing and the script was very corny. The theme and powers were cool as were the action scenes. This is an above average addition to the genre but wasn't as good as similar pictures like Harry Potter.
"I think this dyslexia thing is getting worse.".
Grade: C+.
