Review of Pépé le Moko (1937) by Bill T — 24 Jul 2009
Although it took me a wee bit of time to get used to the pace and whatnot, I really became absorbed in this little French film about a Hoodlum hiding out in the Casbah from the authorities who would really like to get their hands on him.
His possibile undoing comes from a ravishing woman who of course, doesnt come from there, and the only way they could be together is if he had some way to get out. Jean Gabin and Mireille Balin are so ridiculously lit and gorgeously shot it's hard to not root for their dynamite chemistry.
A very nice surprise.
