Review of People I Know (2002) by Matt J — 21 Jun 2007
All over the cover of this DVD case you will read, "one of Al Pacino's finest performances." Well, the critics in this case are quite right. Furthermore, the manufacturers of the DVD made a smart move in putting these quotes all over the case, because Pacino's Oscar nominated performance is the bread and butter of this film.
However, if the acting is the "bread and butter," then the screenplay is the hypothetical table, and director Daniel Algrant is the tablecloth. The dialogue is very fast, and sounds like it's coming from the mouths of actual people.
Algrant, as the director, has the maturity to step back and let Pacino take the lead and carry this film.
