Review of Penny Dreadful (2013) by Bridget B — 10 Mar 2010
This should be called Pretty Dreadful, and that might even be generous. I can deal with a screenplay that seems like it was written by a ten year old when it comes to horror flicks if the rest of the movie makes up for it in special effects, the creep factor or just sheer fun.
This had none of those things, save for a few shots of some clever photography that echoed a much more polished film and seemed disappointingly out of place in this weak addition to the horror genre. The potential I felt the movie could have had quickly dissipated, buried under a frustratingly slow pace of events and anticlimactic scares.
Penny Dreadful was pretty much just that.
