Review of Peeping Tom (1960) by Marcus H — 16 Feb 2008
Fantastic film that ended Michael Powell's career in Britain. Why? because it was ahead of its time, way ahead. A voyeur who was traumatised as a child by his dad kills women with his camera, filming their face as he does so.
His obsession is fear and power, yet surprisingly an asexual obsession which leaves bodies and evidence galore. Shot in striking contrast, primary and secondary colours fill the screen as the thriller unfolds.
Quick, never wasting a second, this says about filmmaking the kind of things most directors can only hope for.
