Review of Pee-wee's Big Holiday (2016) by Marc S — 09 Jun 2016
Amazing. So much fun. It doesn't try to be the original, and its a great stand alone entry in the Pee Wee library. Honestly, I went into this with very low expectations. When I saw the trailer I immediately missed the iconic Danny Elfman score. But as soon as the movie started I was comforted when I saw one of my all time favorite musicians Mark Mothersbough (Devo, Wes Anderson films) did the score. And the movie really hits the ground running. We join a somehow even more eccentric Pee Wee whose been stuck in a rut for what seems to be the time between his last film and this latest entry. I keep watching it over and over. The movie is hilarious, has a really over the top tone, and an odd lack of awareness. The timing in the movie is perfect, the actors are all on the same page, but the script and dialogue are the stars of this movie. Paul Reuben has clearly been fine tuning this story for a while... I think it's a masterpiece. I was so worried that I wouldn't like it, but it's now my wife and i's favorite comedy.
Welcome back Pee Wee!!
