Yes this is a downright goofy movie, but it is also a great piece of cinema. It's Tim Burton's first feature and while Paul Reubens' portrayal of the man-child Pee-Wee Herman is classic it is also fitting that the first name listed after thet title in the opening credits is composer Danny Elfman.
This was Elfman's first major scoring effort and it's still one of his best. Together, he and Burton create some wonderfully original sequences, and, believe it or not, create an Alfred Hitchcock/Bernard Hermann vibe in several scenes.
The influence of the two masters is evident throughout the film. This is 1985's most unexpected gem.
