Review of Pee-wee's Big Adventure (1985) by Nicholas A — 20 Mar 2010
Pee Wee is 30 years old but still acts like a 7 year old. His bike disappears and after the initial hissy fit Pee Wee embarks on a cross country coming of age road trip. One in which around every corner lurks the very real danger of him being bludgeoned and/or raped to death, surely Pee Wee must become a man to avert such danger? you'd think so but other than scaring away some would-be rapists by pretending to have fangs he forgets about the coming of age section and just wants to pull shit wheelies on his stupid bike. At one point he even performs what is essentially a strip tease in some roadside cafe in order to avoid being stabbed to shit by some drunken hicks (I'm assuming the resulting sodomy is only viewable in the director's cut but the implication is there). So I guess the message is that nothing makes sense in this crazy world.
(It always annoys me that there is a character called Amazing Larry in it as well and it's never made clear why he is Amazing??).
