Review of Pee-wee's Big Adventure (1985) by Nate W — 19 Feb 2011
One of my favorite movies as a kid still works for me today, partly because this movie wasn't really even made for kids in the first place. Pee-Wee Herman, a certifiably ridiculous man-child himself, is actually outweirded by the other characters in the film, as you quickly realize that everyone is completely cartoonish in nature, and I mean that in the best way possible.
Gorgeous and interesting backdrops, Tim Burton directed and Danny Elfman scored, and a bevy of hilarious characters make this film one of my favorites. It also gave us Danny Elfman's "Breakfast Machine" the go-to song for complete silliness in movies.
