Review of Pee-wee's Big Adventure (1985) by Shane M — 27 Jan 2014
A great directorial debut for Tim Burton. Telling the story of Pee-wee Herman going on a journey to get his bike back, the film has the hallmarks of a regular Tim Burton film, including its creepy and bizarre atmosphere, and a unique charm that leaves audiences applauding at the end.
Phil Hartman, Paul Reubens, and Michael Varhol wrote a script that is lacking maturity, but is undoubtedly hilarious. The film's hilarity is thanks to Paul Reubens' portrayal of Pee-wee Herman, the previously mentioned script, and the weird nature of the film.
Tim Burton does a great job at bringing the film to the big screen, and long-time Burton collaborator composer Danny Elfman gives an iconic and impressive score that screams "Pee-wee Herman".
Weird, bizarre, and creepy at times, but is still a film worth seeing.
