Review of Pawn Sacrifice (2015) by Michael W — 26 Sep 2015
This is a good story and a movie that makes you believe that all the actors are the real people. Tobey and Live and Peter are amazing. Michael manages to be hero and villain at the same time--amazing acting and writing! They story is slow and goes one step at a time. Just like a chess game. The story of mental illness is shown without the normal hollywood over or under display. It is done as part of the story.
The chess moves are kept in the background but if you know chess they show just enough to let you understand Bobby Fischer's brilliance. It is also fun to see all the old cars, dress, and smoking. Even Nixon and Kissinger are there for a blink in and out. The movie fits the times it shows. It is a story of it times. I learned chess because of Bobby and still play. I usually buy a chess set everywhere I go that is exotic.
