Review of Pawn Sacrifice (2015) by Gary G — 14 Oct 2015
Excellent acting by Maguire and a great true story. Wonderful at building tension and it is never clear if main character is motivated by fear, greed, or just craziness. Script could have been more involving on relationship with sister and mother, though in real life it might have been as murky as the movie.
Script also wants to portray Fischer as paranoid, though it mentions the fact that they did find listening devices in his rooms. Loved the psychological aspects at the end from Fischer's opponent, Spassky.
Only flawed by the intrusion of Hollywood politics in the form of gratuitous America bashing during the Nixon era trying to make this a "cold war" story with random mentions of Watergate.
