Review of Pawn Sacrifice (2015) by Justin H — 03 Mar 2016
Great movie about the chess prodigy turned mental case. Quickly went from celebrity to out of the limelight. They did a good job of recreating the time era. Even had the Spasky character speak Russian in the movie.
Not sure what the whole 'pawn sacrifice' bit was about. Queen sacrifice is a popular move to win checkmate. They never explained the title of pawn sac. Kind of an added bonus that they had an actual bishop in the movie and they spoke briefly about religion Fischer and the priest.
Less of a movie for chess lovers since they rarely talk about openings, ending, traps, and chess terminology more of a movie about the life of the greatest United States chess grandmaster.
