Review of Pawn Sacrifice (2015) by Frances H — 25 Feb 2018
This film demonstrates what is meant by the quote, "Genius is sone step from insanity." It also illustrates why I've always felt that average people are the luckiest, because their lives have a better chance of being happy.
It is not so good to be poor, of course and worry about where your next meal is coming from, but to be an average middle class family is a blessing. To be wealthy is never enough--those who are wealthy are never loved for themselves, or at least never sure they are.
And the wealthy seem to become always obsessed with getting more and more--as we have seen from what has been happening in this country. Wealth is an addiction that is never satisfied. This film's object lesson is that genius and fame don't bring one happiness either.
This life dedicated to playing one game to be the best at it in the world from childhood on--this man never had a chance. To lose your childhood and then peak at a young age so that the rest of your life seems wasted, this is certainly not the road to happiness.
This movie made me feel so sorry for poor Bobbi Fischer! Tobey McGuire played it to perfection.
