Review of Paul (1969) by Darren J — 11 Aug 2012
Don't you put those queer eyes on me!
Two European comic book fans come to the United States to attend San Diego comic con and travel across the country visiting random alien locations. While traveling across the country they encounter an actual alien that seems to be pretty cool; however, the alien turns out to be more than they bargained for as the government hunts the alien in hopes of capturing it.
"You bet your big fat cock I am!".
Greg Mottola, director of Adventureland and Superbad, delivers Paul. The storyline for this picture is fun but nothing special overall. The comedic content is inconsistent but about on par with other Pegg pictures. The script is okay but not outstanding. The cast delivers solid performances and includes Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Mia Stallard, Jeffrey Tambor, and the voice of Seth Rogen.
"I do plan to do a lot of kissing and fornicating.".
Paul was a film that had interesting previews upon its release and I decided to give it a shot when it recently aired on cable. I will say this was interesting and worth watching but was far from as good as Hot Fuzz or Shaun of the Dead. Overall, this is worth watching once but not worth adding to your DVD collections.
"I'm a mission from God.".
"Tell him you failed.".
Grade: C+.
