Review of Paul (1969) by Nick A — 05 Oct 2012
Paul is a very rare commodity (ironic given its specific genre): a comedy whose every laugh is provided with influence and intent, and a film whose final product delivers on its every spec of potential.
It's a hilarious satire of regular and pop culture faux pas, and an incredibly meticulous, endearingly giddy, admirably seamless homage to dozens of our favorite sci-fi and alien classics. And it not only joins the ranks of the its inspirations, it places itself high on their list.
It's the best sci-fi satire of the contemporary film era, and the year's earliest contender for best feature.
