Review of Patriots Day (2016) by Connor D — 13 Jan 2017
Peter Berg's second outing of 2016 starring once again Mark Wahlberg has finally landed on my local cinema's screen, so I went to the theater to see if this could top Berg's first film of the year, Deepwater Horizon.
After the credits started to roll, it was hard for me to decipher between the two, because I found them both to be great films telling a story of a great tragedy. What I got with Patriots Day was a great piece of cinema that chronicles the act of terrorism during the 2013 Boston Marathon, as well as the 4 day period after the event.
The movie clocks in at just over two hours, and it is engaging from start to finish, filled with great Boston dialogue that captures the city and its people. All of that aside, this movie is a reminder for us to not forget that horrible, yet hopeful day that happened not even four years ago.
The heroism that took place is hard to fathom, and the movie itself probably didn't come close to portraying the real heroes of that day. The only complaints I have for this one is that the way some of the scenes were directed didn't quite pay off for me and the movie as a whole could have been cut down to just under two hours and probably would played just the same.
But overall, Patriots Day is a good movie to go out and see in the midst of a weak month for movies. 7.9/10.
