Review of Patriots Day (2016) by Dylan H — 14 Feb 2018
Incredibly well directed and structured, 'Patriots Day' portrays the events surrounding the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings and the immense logistics of that which followed in a convincing, realistic and coherent way.
It doesn't devolve into mindless action, but instead remains respectful and stays as true to reality as can be expected by not only showing the physical and psychological effects of the explosions, but also the strength and bravery of those involved.
What you end up with is a well-made thriller that is visceral and affecting; a film that it would be almost impossible to leave without having a huge amount of respect for the medical staff, first-responders, police and investigators who worked tirelessly in their fields to counteract a horrendous act of violence that left scars, emotional and physical, on so many people.
