Review of Paths of Glory (1957) by Steve G — 12 Jul 2008
A real underrated gem from Stanley Kubrick.
I'm always surprised at how much I always love his directing. The tracking shot in the trenches is amazing. How he shot the battle scene was also great.
Everyone was great in this. Kirk Douglas is one of my favorite actors. He has a sort of edge that a lot of actors don't have kinda like Jack Nicholson.
I thought this was just gonna be a great war movie but it's so much more than that. Kubrick made an unflinching look into the politics of war. Probably one of the best anti-war movies ever made.
The ending is one of my favorites.
