Review of Paths of Glory (1957) by Johnny C — 16 Jun 2010
I can safely say, without a hint of hyperbole, that this is the greatest war film I have ever seen. A miracle of set design, performance and dialogue it presents the chilling reality of the First World War in a way that says much more about human nature than just the war itself.
It is as Kubrick as any of his films with his deliberate cinematography, clear division into two distinct parts and use of music.
