Review of Paths of Glory (1957) by Ashley K — 05 May 2011
Considered by many the first masterpiece of Stanley Kubrick, Paths of Glory is a gripping wartime drama. A show of great acting and directing, intriguing and enraging the viewer while flagging a powerful anti-war message.
Unlike most movies with such messages, it does not go for the "showing the horrors of war" approach, but holds a steady focus on the individual and the emotions and decisions of ordinary people in extreme situations.
The heritage of this film reverberates in movies even to this day.
