Review of Pather Panchali (1955) by Anish G — 19 Mar 2013
I had been putting this on hold for quite a time, it is widely considered a masterpiece and on first viewing I'll tend to agree with that consensus. Pather Panchali is a hauntingly good portrayal of poverty in pre-independence Bengal and stands the test of time.
The cinematography was especially brilliant, delightfully modern even though it has been almost 60 years since its release. It's part of a trilogy by Satyajit Ray and I really look forward to watching the rest.
