Review of Patch Adams (1998) by Sharyn H — 03 Jan 2009
This sort of movie is what many would see as 'typical' Robin Williams fare - complete with dizzyingly heady dose of manic energy. I love the fact that there's more to it than just that - more for us to take in, more for Williams to work with, etc.
This movie has always touched me - I love the fact that it's based upon a true story, and that there really is someone out there calling themselves Patch Adams and doing these wonderful things. It's lovely to see people bending the system into something more humane, endeavouring to give sick people a better quality of life and the ability to largely take back their recovery into their own hands.
A very positive, beautiful movie.
