Review of Patch Adams (1998) by Kiera M — 09 Nov 2010
Robin Williams is about as good as the constraints of the direction and script allow him to be. Furthermore, this film is a bit like the average adolescent-- it has some severe problems with time management.
Unimportant scenes are given extra time to gush all over the place, while pivotal scenes are often too pithy for their significance to the story. The film isn't all that interesting, especially considering the story behind it.
It's sometimes effusive, sometimes mawkish, and occasionally totally ludicrous (I'm thinking of the butterfly scene). It's decent, but I wouldn't go much further than that.
