Review of Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid (1973) by Chris M — 11 Jun 2007
This movie is so bizarre, ponderous, and unexpectedly non-brutal (at least by Peckinpah standards) that I'm still unsure what to think about it-- So far I think I like it a lot. Bob Dylan's acting is definitely a low point but there are many scenes of indescribable beauty, chief among them the death of Chill Willis.
It's a stunning rebuke to all those westerns where nameless thugs get shot and die offscreen. It's like nothing you've ever seen, in a western or otherwise.
