Review of Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid (1973) by Brendan F — 25 Aug 2007
Underrated and underseen, as the 1988 director's cut is a masterpiece of Westerns and in general, but was released after the critical moment of expectation. 15 years after the movie's original failure release, the 88 version is, as Peckinpah had hoped, a melancholy and incredibly beautiful movie which, throughout and especially by the end, seems like an elegy for all Westerns.
Fantastic movie.
