Review of Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid (1973) by Bill W — 06 Dec 2007
In a way this is Sam Peckinpah trying to be Sergio Leone and flubbing it. I have mixed feelings about this movie. There are some aspects of it I like. One high point is Bob Dylan's Knocking on Heaven's Door, while Slim Pickins character bleeds to death in his wife's arms.
The big publicity item a the time was that Bob Dylan plays a part in the film. It's a minor role and the fact that Bob Dylan did not have a film career after this movie should tell you something. The fact that it seemed to be 2 1/2 hours long when in fact it was 1 hour and 46 minutes long should tell you something else.
