Review of Passengers (2016) by Dylan C — 06 Mar 2017
Passengers is an odd movie to define but its central questions are compelling and thereâ??s enough here for them to linger. The first half of the film, which some may find slow, is ripe with existential angst and isnâ??t afraid to venture into dark territory and is essential for the film to hold gravity.
A choice made by the main character could be considered morally dubious but they are human and are handled with tact by director Morten Ty. Some may find the films final act rushed, squeezed too tightly with sci-fi/space worthy effects for no reason.
However, it breeds a level of suspense, like oxygen rushed into a vacuum, that gives the film needed life in my opinion. The 2 main characters are enough for each other in the film, but will they be enough for us? Theyâ??re essentially the only people in this film.
2 hours can be a lot of time to spend with just two actors. Fortunately, Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence have enough charisma to last light years. Lawrence and Pratt are no passengers. They carried this thing.
