Review of Passengers (2016) by Zama — 19 Sep 2018
It was mostly interesting in the middle of the movie where the tension is, and the rest feels kind of slow or predictable. The CGI is not as realistic as other theater-released movies, and more like a show, but is charming in its own way.
The story's resolution felt too quick, right as it was getting really good. I wish it could have had a longer moment of Jim and Aurora discussing seriously about their future. I would be interested to see a story written afterward about their life together and whether they really explored every other option - for example, did they ever even want to try sharing a hibernation pod and saved a few years perhaps? Or maybe they wanted to save it for someone else who accidentally woke up.
Or, did they have a kid together and have the kid sleep in the pod? OH HOH! Good one right?? Or a sequel/spin-off movie exploring the other subject of life on the new planet. Well, I almost left this at a 7/10 but once I realized how interested I am in this story to the point of wanting to see more, I bumped it up.
