Review of Passengers (2016) by Richard S — 11 Sep 2017
This was a great idea for a sci-fi film with a morally dubious discussion point at its core. However, what the film actually turned out to be was a couple of hours of watching a couple of really good looking people get lost in space.
The 2 passengers of the story are both in hibernation pods enjoying a 120 year sleep as their ship transports them and 100's of other passengers to a new colony planet. Something goes wrong, Chris Pratt wakes up 90 years early and is faced with the daunting prospect of living out the rest of his life alone on a spaceship.
After only 12 months of loneliness he takes the morally dubious decision to also wake up Jennifer Lawrence early. Chaos ensues, people stay beautiful, the end. A great looking film but a missed opportunity regarding storytelling.
