Review of Passengers (2016) by D J — 11 Jun 2017
If an argument can be made for critical mal-practice this is it. I saw this move in its initial first week of release and I was astounded by the poor critical reviews. I almost didn't go see it, but I was glad I did. This is an excellent film with top notch acting, an interesting story, and great special effects. The main problem with the professional critics seems to be an element of the plot which many find distasteful. The moral issue which prompted all the critical hate, is an interesting and understandable plot device, and while it might make some people uncomfortable, even angry, that is what goods movies are all about. It is truly disheartening to see some of the same critics who cry out in outrage give good reviews to movies who use wonton destruction and murder as plot without any social or moral considerations.
It would be hard to review this film without ruining a lot of the experience, but this is one that you should see for yourself and make your own decision about. This is a movie that will be around long after other critical darlings have come and gone.
